George Lucas has expressed high regard for the “Obi-Wan Kenobi” series, considering it one of his favorite parts of the Star Wars franchise. This opinion surprises many fans, particularly given the mixed reactions to the series, with some viewing it as inferior to other entries like “The Last Jedi.”

(For the record, we really enjoyed it.)

  1. Inferior to TLJ? 🤣 nooo. It was a great illustration of another part in the Anakin & Obi-Wan relationship. Nothing inferior about it, it’s an excellent tale and performance.

  2. Being what it is, a series, not every episode can be a movie of the calibre that esb was or the last Jedi. It’s drawn out over so many episodes. Great show for what it is. Rogue one trumps the lot

  3. The only thing inferior to “The Last Jedi” is possibly a “Faces Of Death” tape I accidentally watched.

Though I’m pretty sure it was superior to TLJ

  4. Last Jedi was the best of the sequel trilogy but it still wasn’t great compared to everything else in the series. Rogue one showed how to make a great disney star wars film.

  5. It is. Ewan McGregor is.
Him, Harrison Ford, Mark Hamill (obviously) and Samuel L. Jackson (an international treasure of undeniable stature) are.

Carrie Fisher deserves a special call out. Not even for Princess Leia, but for blowing up the Blues Brothers with an RPG!

  6. If it’s about focusing on the hero, in this case obi-wan, it wasn’t that bad. I would say at par with Solo.
Solo was/is harder to accept perhaps because the actor was fresh off the boat and totally disassociate with any and all star wars films and series up to that point.
But still, I thought Solo was not bad.

Obi Wan did fill some of the gap of what exactly would obi wando for 17 years willingly marooned on Tattoine. Rejecting and forgetting about the force and working odd jobs kinda fits, although how he was supposed to look after and guide the boy, one has to wonder, as it seems he was out of practice.
What I didn’t like about the Obi Wan series is how the wrote Darth Vader.
I still have to watch the series a second time but it seemed to me too shallow a write, Vaders part. Vader would not be obsessed with obi Wan. If anything he would be afraid of him.
He did get over him in time, as it becomes obvious in ep 4, if that is to be a guide.
The Jedi temple survivor become sith was a nice touch in that story, as was the state of the resistance, the underlying arc of it.
This part actually exists in Andor too and is certainly one of the things I would be drawn to, how the resistance managed to operate and stay hidden from the Empire during its rise.
And it’s perhaps also true that the jedi would be pretty useless in that endeavor, building up the resistance. The Jedi were never meant to lead such an effort. It had to come from the people. All that was important re the jedi was not to lose force sensitive children to the dark side, as the empire was into that, turning them all into siths.
